7th graders went to the University of Hartford's Museum of Jewish Civilization on Tuesday, November 20th for a class field trip. They were led through 2 stations in the museum centering around the discussion of 500 Jewish refugees that came to CT after the end of WWII. Students were able to discuss how they identify themselves, leading them to consider how Jews might have identified themselves differently leading up to the Holocaust. They were also able to ask questions and contribute to discussion on the Plight of St. Louis Refugees and how that might connect to today's refugees as well. The end of the trip culminated with students having a conversation with Ruth Weiner, a local Holocaust survivor from Vienna, Austria. Students, chaperones, and staff really enjoyed her lively discussion and have even sent her a thank you card for sharing her story. It was definitely a memorable day for all involved!
