Reflex Math builds math fact fluency, which is essential to success in mathematics. Kids gain fluency by learning "fact families," in which they focus on a set of facts for a group of numbers. Subtraction and addition are paired and taught together. Similarly, multiplication and division facts are taught as a family. BMS currently has a small grant to pilot using Reflex Math with 35 students.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is the high stakes test that Connecticut uses to measure student proficiency in math and English/Language Arts. The Practice Tests allow teachers, students, parents, and the public to experience a Smarter Balanced test. The tests include a variety of question types and difficulty (approximately 30 items each in ELA and math), as well as an ELA and math performance task at each grade level.

STAR Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with learning data. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust to each answer your child provides. Your child takes Star test for reading and math a minimum of three times a year - fall, winter, and spring.

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is a National Science Foundation-supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). These are free resources that provide great opportunities to practice math skills and concepts.
