Mr. Alan Yanku
Principal of Brooklyn Middle School
Brooklyn, Connecticut

August 9, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians of Fifth Grade Students:

We hope that you have been enjoying the summer. We are looking forward to the start of the school year with new opportunities, and we understand the excitement for students and parents entering Brooklyn Middle School. The staff shares your enthusiasm as a new year marks new experiences and learning for them as well. The fifth grade teachers have their class lists and soon you will be receiving a brief welcome letter from your child’s homeroom teacher.

To help with transitioning to the Middle School we’d like to invite you to attend a meeting for families of fifth graders on Wednesday, August 23 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. where we will provide a brief overview (the nuts and bolts) of the Middle School, and give you the opportunity to visit the fifth grade classrooms, and meet with us informally to ask questions or just chat. Our purpose for this event is to provide a preview prior to the opening of school, rather than have your first experience at BMS take place at Open House after school has opened. As the first day approaches, your child is probably experiencing a mixture of excitement and nervousness. We’re hoping that this Middle School Orientation will provide you and your child the information necessary for a positive start to the middle school experience. Please be aware that we would have liked to inform you of (as well as scheduled) this meeting earlier, but with the roof construction we were unsure of when the building would be accessible for families.

A more detailed informational letter will be sent to all middle school parents, but we wanted to take an opportunity to welcome you and your child to Brooklyn Middle School. Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer and we look forward to forging a relationship as your child develops as a member of our middle school community.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, August 23, at 5:00 p.m.

Sincerely,

Alan Yanku            Heather Tamsin
